Content Creator
Create compelling short-form content that introduces new audiences to AfroShorts.
Employment type
12-month contract, renewable
About the role
As Content Creator, you will turn AfroShorts stories, characters, and cultural moments into content that makes people stop, watch, and want to discover more. You will take ideas from concept through filming and editing, producing work that feels native to mobile and social platforms. You will collaborate with the team on campaigns while bringing your own creative perspective to how we connect with audiences.
What you will do
- Pitch original concepts for short-form videos, promotional content, behind-the-scenes features, and audience-led formats that reflect the AfroShorts brand.
- Translate creative briefs into scripts, storyboards, shot lists, and practical production plans with a clear hook and intended audience.
- Film and edit vertical video, paying close attention to framing, sound, pacing, captions, and the opening moments that hold a viewer's attention.
- Create platform-specific versions of content, including cutdowns, thumbnails, and supporting visual assets where needed.
- Collaborate with the social media team on the content calendar, campaign ideas, and delivery deadlines.
- Use approved footage, music, and other assets responsibly, checking permissions and keeping working files organised for future use.
- Review audience feedback and content performance, testing different hooks, formats, and edits to improve results.
- Maintain a consistent visual standard and ensure captions are readable, audio is clear, and finished content is ready for its intended platform.
What you will bring
- An established following and an existing, engaged audience on one or more social platforms. You should already be creating content for a community of your own.
- A portfolio showing engaging short-form video or digital storytelling, with a clear explanation of your role in each project.
- Practical experience planning shoots, capturing usable footage and audio, and editing content from start to finish.
- Confidence using video editing tools such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut; the quality of your work matters more than the tool.
- An understanding of vertical formats, visual storytelling, pacing, subtitles, and the differences between social platforms.
- The ability to work from a brief, contribute original ideas, respond thoughtfully to feedback, and meet agreed deadlines.
- A strong interest in Black stories and culture, with care for how people and communities are represented.
